Tropical Storm Karen: What the NJ area needs to know

October 4th, 2013 by admin

Once Karen makes landfall, the system is expected to head toward the northeast, when it could have an impact on the New Jersey region Monday into Tuesday as the storm’s remnants interact with an approaching cold front. It is predicted to bring soaking rains and minor coastal flooding Monday and Tuesday.

We advise residents and business owners to act now, before punishing winds and wind-driven rain begins. Pre-storm action can greatly reduce damage, and the related need for clean-up and repairs.  We offer the following guidance:

Surroundings: Move lightweight loose items that are outside, such as garbage cans, signs, and lawn furniture, into a covered area. Anchor heavier objects deep into the ground. Pick up any debris around your house or business that could become a flying projectile during high winds.

Basement: Elevate furniture, appliances and electronic devices off the floor to prevent water damage.
