Something to think about this weekend

September 14th, 2012 by admin

One million people chat and text while driving each day. It is a growing trend, and a national epidemic, quickly becoming one of the country’s top killers. People feel pressure to remain in constant contact, even when behind the wheel. Drivers assume they can handle texting while driving and remain safe and do not realize are the risks posed when they take their eyes off the road and their hands off the wheel.

Texting While Driving Causes:

  • 1,600,000 accidents per year – National Safety Council
  • 2. 330,000 injuries per year – Harvard Center for Risk Analysis Study
  • 11 teen deaths EVERY DAY – Ins. Institute for Hwy Safety Fatality Facts
  • Nearly 25% of ALL car accidents

It’s a dangerous problem, and it’s growing.

Some current prevention methods include apps such as;

tXtBlocker– where you can control where and when your cellphone can be used

Textecution- which responds to speeds over 10mph and disables any texting  feature

iZup- which, at certain speeds, not only disables texting but disables emails and calling excluding 911 and authorized numbers.

AT&T’s Drive Mode- which takes away cell phone distractions when enabled

AT&T is also asking its employees and other drivers to take the pledge to not text and drive at itcanwait.com.  Quite a few celebrities already have!

Your safety is of paramount concern to The Insurance Center of North Jersey, so we want to remind you, this weekend and all that follow, texting while driving is an unwise activity.

Happy Weekend,
